Alf was the son of the toll keepers at the Gorge Village. His three children all went on to become duxes of the Woodville School. Alf served in World War I and later worked as manager of a local dairy factory.
Joseph Sowry was the first mayor of Woodville in 1887. He and a group of men and their families from Waipawa formed the Woodville Smallholders Association and were the first settlers in the town.

The museum holds a lot of material on pioneer families, including photographs. We intend to load all this material on to the website so you can search for information on your relative.
